The most popular packages we create here at Fishing Costa Rica Experts are trips to the FADS (Fishing Aggregating Devices). FADs are also commonly referred to as seamounts by commercial fisherman who use man made FADs entice bait fish and other small marine life to congregate around the coral that forms around structures placed on the sea floor. FADs have been used for thousands of years in various forms. The earliest surface and mid-water FADs were natural elements such as driftwood, trees or even batches of seaweed.
FAD rigs can vary a great deal, in some cases using advanced technologies, but in general, buoys and floats close to the surface comprise the major part of an aggregating system.
The FADs offer protection for juvenile fish from predator fish. This gathering in turn attracts large predator fish, such as skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna, dorado, wahoo, mackerel with the most prized catch being the Blue Marlin.
Stories from fishing at the FADS sound surreal with some boats lifting 35 marlin in one day. The key to a great FAD fishing experience lies in the experience of the Captain and mates on board.
In Costa Rica there are several man made FADs at varying miles from shore offering some of the best fishing in the world. Fisherman from all over the world travel to the shores of Costa Rica looking for the catch of a lifetime these 2- 3 day fishing trips.
“Good Day Team fishing Los Suenos polite, knowledgeable, and fun. Raised 14 sailfish, released 7, caught/released 1 marlin, caught/ate 2 dorado! :) 2 couples on the Good Day. Capt and mate worked hard all day. As a boat owner, offshore fisherman and USCG licensed Capt. I have an appreciation for the work they put in to making it a successful day.”
“My 4 kids and I had an amazing sport fishing adventure during a recent visit to Costa Rica. After reviewing several options, we booked a full-day trip on the "Sailfish" through Randall and were not disappointed in any way! The price was very competitive and the boat we selected worked out very well for our family. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, we're not used to the heat and the Sailfish had an air conditioned cabin...”
“I highly recommend Kings for your fishing trip in Costa Rica. Randall was truthful and upfront about everything and was willing to anything to make us happy. The captain & mate were friendly, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. They put us right on the fish. Will definitely be back...”
“Incredible experience with fantastic staff from the organisation all the way through to guys on the boat. Everyone spoke English well despite me being a Spanish speaker and from the get go I felt i was in very safe and professional hands. The price was very competitive but people had recommended i seek out these guys on the main strip in Jaco just opposite the bar/restaurant Los Amigos. It was my first time and managed to catch a bonito and a sail fish in a half day trip...”
“First off Randall is very easy to deal with and will help you find exactly what you are looking for. We fished 1/2 day inshore for Roosterfish, and the next day a full day offshore for Sailfish. Each trips were a resounding success, and the day offshore was my best day fishing ever (and I am an avid fisherman). We went with the Barillete boat on both days (28' center console w/ 2 outboard engines), and do not be concerned with safety going offshore in this boat...”
“These guys have an outlet on the maon drag in Jaco and organize all sorts of tours and transport. You recognize their store easily as they have tbe pavement in front of it painzed blue.. I booked a transport to and from Montezuma with them and also a trip to Manuel Antonio including guide and lunch. There werent enough people for the latter in the beginning so they put out a sign on the street in order to make it happen. Very nice guys, good value and also good...”
