MARLIN. Seasons: September, October, and November are normally the
best months for Marlin. But…big Blue, Black and Striped Marlin are
always around and the boats that target them usually have some
success. You may need to go a little farther and fish a little
harder, but Marlin fishermen are familiar with that.
Method: Generally caught 20-50 miles out while trolling lures and/or
ballyhoo with circle hooks. The “bait and switch” with teasers and
pitch baits is the most popular method on the big boats. Live bait
is best when you find the fish. Marlin can also be caught on the fly
if the Marlin is small and you are really lucky. |

SAILFISH Seasons: The Sailfish bite is above average year around and
almost all the fish are over 100 pounds. When the fish is good,
boats can raise 10-40 Sailfish a day. The best months are normally
December through April, but Sailfish are caught in good number all
year around. Method: Generally caught 10-30 miles out while trolling
lures and/or ballyhoo with circle hooks. The “bait and switch” with
teasers and pitch baits is the most popular and fun when fishing is
hot. Sailfish can also be caught on the fly and live bait. Always
use circle hooks FOR Sailfish and please catch and release quickly. |

TUNA Seasons: Yellow fin Tuna are caught throughout the year on the
Central Pacific coast. It’s not uncommon to pick up a 100 plus
pounds Yellow fin when fishing for Sailfish. The bib Tuna come and
go all year around but June through September are normally the best
months for 200 plus pounders.
Method: Generally caught 10-30 miles out. Yellow fin will bite on
the same lures and ballyhoo rigs that are used to catch Sailfish.
Tuna are usually found feeding with dolphins especially Spinner
Dolphins. If you can find feeding dolphins you can target tuna with
cedar plugs and deeper running trolling lures like the green
machine. Live bait is the best for big tuna… get in front of the
feeding pack and drop you live bait down and hold on |

MAHI MAHI Seasons: The Sailfish bite is above average year around.
The rainy season June through October. 40- 90 pound Dorado are very
common when fishing for Sailfish.
Method: It will bite on the same lures and ballyhoo rigs that are
used to catch Sailfish. Mahi Mahi can also be caught on the fly and
live bait. Always use circle hooks dorado |

Roosterfish: Undoubtedly, the Roosterfish is the most exciting
inshore fish available and are the main attraction to inshore
fishermen. These fish lurk around rocky bottoms and are one heck of
a fight! They are not to good for eating due to of all their muscle
but they do tend to bring a lot of spunk to the line. Roosters can
be caught year round averaging from 20 to 40 pounds. |

Cubera Snapper: Fishing This is the most popular of all the local
Snappers, due to its size and sheer strength. Fish over 50lbs have
been caught in the area, year round. They are very similar to the
Red Snapper fish. |
