Sierpe serves as the entrance to the largest River reserve in Latin America. The Terraba-Sierpe National Wetlands is situated where the mouths of the Sierpe and Terraba rivers meet and is home some of the biggest Rivers in the world. Also the habitat for an extensive array of indigenous animals, birds and reptiles including turtles, spoonbills, crocodiles, monkeys, herons, kingfishers, caimans and frogs, these wonderful wetlands are an amazing place to tour, and are a must-see when in Sierpe.
Hedged by more than 66,850 acres of protected, undisturbed Rivers that are intertwined with river canals and tropical rainforest on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, Sierpe is the closest location to launch into the Osa Peninsula, Cano Island and the Corcovado National Park.
Fishing in the Sierpe River
It's a big, quiet deep river that has an abundance of animal and plant life. The shore mainly consists of Rivers or the local Lirios and Platanillas. As you can see, the area is ideal for the habitats of young and old fish, many shrimp and crabs, as well as many others that are part of the food chain.
In the river, the common types of fish are River Snapper, Snook, Corvina, Grouper and Machaca among others
That fishing is much better when the tide is low, that's why the tour lasts no more than 6 hours.

My father-in-law and I went on a six-hour river fly fishing trip targeting machaca bass, and the guides put us on _tons_ of fish. They patiently explained the best way to target machaca, and even provided info on the plants and animals we saw along the way.
